Teaching material

The availability and quality of teaching material is good. There are two Swedish publishing companies. Problem: not so profitable to publish books for the Swedish population: 300.000 = 6% of the population. Teachers write text books and adapt Finnish text books: sometimes books are not up to date with changing syllabi.

Main Problem

Smaller schools find it difficult to offer 'small' subjects for small groups of students.

Solutions

7 Schools in the area are planning joint courses on the net that will enable the schools to offer courses that would be too costly for one school to offer by itself.

Remarks

Swedish is minority language in the country as a whole, but dominant language in the school.
